I traveled around Romania for five weeks, turning up my nose at a menu item I kept seeing poorly described in English- “cream cheese doughnuts”. Three days before my departure I found myself sitting in a restaurant, looking at the most amazing dessert ever passing by. What was it? “Cream cheese doughnuts.” FML.
These “cream cheese doughnuts”- known as “papanasi” in Romanian, were devoured at La Mama in Bucharest. I ate more papanasi. I ate all the papanasi.
