Mealtime Monday: The Big Brunch

The right plate of bacon and eggs makes you forget about the fact that you queued in the hot summer sun (or cold winter snow) for hours, just to have our favorite breakfast/lunch hybrid: brunch.  I stand by a previous statement that North Americans (in particular, those on the West Coast… in my humble opinion!) do brunch better than anyone else.  Here?  A homemade buttermilk biscuit topped with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese and tomato jam, with a side of hash browns (topped with a solitary roasted tomato half!) and a little coffee.  Total time spent queuing outside the restaurant waiting for a table?  Only twenty minutes… not bad at all!

At Jam Cafe in Victoria, BC, where the daily special (which I did not order) was a ridiculously indulgent stack of “orange creamsicle” pancakes.  I gained five pounds just typing that.

  1. Sounds delish! But may I ask, what’s a buttermilk biscuit? Like a pancake? I only ask because biscuits in Australia are cookies, so I’m a little confused 🙂
